Swimming Through the Waters

“When you walk through the waters I will be with you.”

Isaiah 43:2

I remember when I was little my granddaddy, who I call Cocky, taught me how to swim. I remember jumping off the side of the pool and not being scared at all, because he was right there ready to catch me if something went wrong. Cocky knew just what to do when I would jump in the water. He would back up so that I would have to swim, but if I started to not swim he would be there to help guide me to shore. He would show me what I needed to do to make it when I swam.

You know that’s very similar to how God does us. He leads us and guides us through rough water. Have you ever felt like you were not doing a very good job of “swimming” through life? Sometimes life gets “wavy.” We go through ups and downs in life and sometimes it can feel like the waves are always nocking us down. However, like my Cocky was for me, Jesus is always right there to guide us through the deep waters. When we feel like we are drowning in the waves of life He is right there to help us through.

It amazes me how many times Jesus has guided me and helped me through the deep waters in my life. The first year that my husband and I were married we went through some DEEP WATERS. For starters, I had to have major surgery on my ovaries and uterus. They found that my fallopian tubes had tied in knots and attached to the back of my uterus. I also had to have stage 4 endometriosis removed for the second time and an inoperable adenomyosis tumor on the back side of my uterus. This was MAJOR surgery and caused a lot of pain. I was out of work for six weeks. During this time, Logan was also out of work. He had been having issues at his job and it came to a point where he had to part ways. So, there we were…. not six months married, neither of us pulling a paycheck, and I had to have round the clock care for my recovery.

However, I can look back and see God’s hand in the deep water guiding us and providing. During that time, God provided ways for our bills to be paid and our needs to be met. We never once missed a bill and Logan was able to be home with me during my recovery.

Swimming through deep waters is never easy, but just like my Cocky was there, God is always walking right by you. What deep waters are you going through today? Will you trust that God is walking right beside you? Will you trust his guidance through the waters?

Lord,

Help me to know that you are walking right beside me, in the deep waters. Help me to trust your guiding hand and to know that you are the provider of all that I need. Teach me to lean on you as you walk with me through the deep waters.

In your name I pray,

Amen
