This Joy is Mine

I love the song “A Thousand Hallelujahs” by Brooke Ligertwood. It is a wonderful praise and worship song that talks about lifting up “A Thousand Hallelujahs” to the Lord. One of the lyrics says, “perhaps creation longs to have the words to sing, but this joy is mine.” That lyric slapped me in the face.

Look around at creation. It’s BEAUTIFUL! Look at the big things such as Mount Everest or the Grand Canyon and look at the little things such as a butterfly or a small flower coming out of the ground. Those things in creation long to sing God’s praises, BUT that joy is reserved for us as humans. We are the ones who get to sing praises to the King of Kings. We are the ones who are given the joy of worshiping!

So why don’t we?

Luke 19:40 says “I tel you, if they keep silent, the stones will cry out!” Jesus is telling us here that if we do not praise him, creation will! We have the joy of being able to sing praises to the Lamb of God. I don’t want that joy to be given to a rock, in my place. I want to be able to bask in the joy of praising the Lord. Whatever you have going on today, whatever trial, whatever burden, find joy in praising the Lord for his goodness. He is so wonderful to all of us and we have so much to thank Him for. We should praise him for not only what he has done, but who He is- the creator of all things, the prince of peace, our savior and redeemer. Don’t let the creation have to sing praises instead of you. Find joy in your praises to Him.

“All the earth worships you and sings praises to you; they sing praises to your name.” Psalm 66:4
